: U.S. stocks open lower as investors look ahead to April inflation report

U.S. stocks opened lower Tuesday, as investors await remarks from Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams and look ahead to Wednesday’s inflation report. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA was down 0.2% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX fell 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP shed 0.6%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Investors will get a reading on inflation in April from the consumer-price index on Wednesday. Meanwhile, New York Fed President Williams is scheduled to speak around noon on Tuesday.
