: World Health Organization declares end to COVID global health emergency

The World Health Organization on Friday declared an end to the COVID-19 global health emergency. Speaking at a press conference in Geneva, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he had accepted the advice of an expert committee on the pandemic’s status, adding “it is therefore with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as a global health emergency.” But COVID is not over as a global health threat, he said, adding that last week, the virus claimed a life every three minutes.
