Moderna Inc. said Wednesday the Japanese government has ordered an additional 70 million doses of its COVID-19 booster vaccine or an updated booster vaccine candidate, if one wins authorization. The doses are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2022. The agreement is contingent on the Ministry of Health securing a budget for the additional supply. The Japanese government has already committed to 93 million doses of the company’s COVID vaccine with the potential for that number to increase to 163 million doses with the new agreement. Moderna shares were up 2.6% premarket but are down 5% in the last 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 7.6%.
