U.S. sanctions Russians over support for North Korean missile program

The U.S. Treasury on Friday announced sanctions on two individuals and three entities for supporting North Korea’s development of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs. The sanctions target “a network of Russia-based individuals and entities complicit in helping [North Korea] procure components for its unlawful ballistic missile systems,” said Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson. All U.S.-based property of the individuals and entities must be blocked and reported, the Treasury said. The administration said Thursday it would announce new actions on Friday that aim to prevent North Korea from accessing foreign items and technology that enable it to advance its prohibited weapons programs.
