Pence says Trump ‘wrong’ in claiming ex-VP could have overturned 2020 election results

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday said ex-President Donald Trump was “wrong” in claiming that Pence could have overturned the 2020 election results when he presided over the congressional certification on Jan. 6, 2021, of Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College. “I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to ‘overturn the election,'” the former vice president said at a Federalist Society event in Florida. “President Trump is wrong,” Pence said. “I had no right to overturn the election.” Trump had in a statement on Sunday falsely claimed that Pence “could have overturned the Election!” On Tuesday, Trump said the committee probing his role in sparking the Jan. 6 insurrection should instead probe “why Mike Pence did not send back the votes for recertification or approval.”
