: Southern Co. names CEO

Southern Co. SO on Thursday named company executive Chris Womack as chief executive officer of the power company, effective March 31. Southern Company is growing the size of its board of directors to 14 from 13 with the election of Womack. CEO Thomas A. Fanning will relinquish the role of president and CEO upon Womack’s assumption of the role in March and become executive chairman. Womack, 64, has been president of Georgia Power since 2020 and chairman, president and CEO since 2021. Shares of Southern Co. are up 6.4% in the past year, compared to an 18% drop by the S&P 500 SPX over the same period.
