U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday named Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. Garland said in a news conference at the Justice Department that it’s in the “public interest” to appoint Hur special counsel. Garland’s announcement came after Biden’s aides found additional classified documents in a second location beyond those discovered in November at a Washington office Biden used after his vice presidency. Hur is a former DOJ official.
