Europe COVID-19 deaths pass two million mark, says WHO

The number of COVID-19 fatalities in Europe passed the two million mark on Thursday, AFP reported, citing a statement from the World Health Organization. “A devastating milestone has passed as reported confirmed COVID-19 deaths from countries in the WHO European Region have exceeded more than 2 million people,” the UN health agency said in a statement. The news comes as President Joe Biden mourns the loss of one million Americans to the virus. Official numbers from Johns Hopkins University have not quite reached that threshold but are likely to later Thursday.
