WWE shuts down WWE Network in Russia, cuts ties with Russia-based broadcaster Match

Shares of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. fell 1.3% in morning trading Thursday, to pull back from the previous session’s four-month closing high, after the media and entertainment company said it has eliminated access in Russia to any WWE programming. “WWE has terminated its partnership with Russian broadcaster Match and shut down WWE Network in Russia effective immediately,” the company said in a statement. WWE said the programming that is being eliminated in Russia include the weekly Raw, Smackdown and NXT shows, its on-demand library and all of its premium live events, which includes WrestleMania 38. The move follows actions by many companies and countries to cut ties with Russia, as the country’s military attack of Ukraine intensifies. WWE’s stock, which closed Wednesday at the highest level since Nov. 3, has run up 20.8% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 has slipped 4.0%.
