U.S. stocks opened higher Friday, with major indexes finding support as investors weighed remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin and continued to monitor Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 268 points, or 0.8%, to 33,442, while the S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 4,290 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.8% to 13,237. Futures were lifted ahead of the opening bell after Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Belarusian counterpart that he had seen “certain positive shifts, negotiators on our side tell me,” in talks with Ukraine.
