Artist and influencer Sircaliburx (AKA THE MEME GOD) does a lot with his own brand and label, InTheWave Corp., selling apparel in addition to filming and photography opportunities. He is also a rapper and influencer, building a strong platform on websites like Instagram. With so much going on, you would think Sircaliburx is focused solely on those endeavors, but the artist makes a concerted effort to give back to the community of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as well. That philanthropy has helped the city’s homeless population and he hopes to inspire others to do the same.
When It All Started
In September of last year, Sircaliburx organized and collected clothing to donate to people in need. In just one week he was able to collect thousands of articles of clothing, which were then handed off accordingly. “I have saying I believe in, wealth is of the heart and mind, not the pocket,” Sircaliburx says. “I feel wealthy when I’m giving out clothes, food, whatever the people say they need, I feel good when I’m helping.”
Help for the Holidays
For Thanksgiving of last year, Sircaliburx saw a need for turkeys among some local Philadelphian. To fill that need, he gave away 100 turkeys so that families and people in need could have the signature dish at their dinner tables for the holiday. “Every artist wants to blow up and then go back to where they’re from and give back, I want to always be doing that. It’s like I’m here now already with a way to help out, so why not do it.”
Homelessness in Philadelphia
In 2019, the City of Philadelphia Office of Homeless Services reported that the city had the lowest number of street homeless people per capita of any of the largest cities in the US. In total, about 5,700 Philadelphians are considered to be homeless across the city, which includes about 950 who are unsheltered.
The city puts forth a great deal of effort to try and combat the issue of homelessness, but Sircaliburx wants people to know that there’s still things that people need.
“The food I give out, it goes away so fast, same with the clothes,” he says. “These people need all that and more, and I think people need to be more aware of the homeless people in their areas. I’m becoming more aware of what it’s like, and in Philly I feel like I’ve been able to help out a lot.”
The Opioid crisis has caused a lot of people to become homeless in Philadelphia in recent years. Homelessness in the downtown Center City area is also more apparent now due to construction and fewer spaces for people to live. These kinds of conditions apply not only to Philadelphia, but to many other metro areas across the country.
SirCalibur Day
On May 15th of this year, Sircaliburx gave away 100 Little Caesars pizzas to homeless people in Los Angeles on Skid Row, during an event that he called SirCalibur Day. Those pizzas were given out quickly as word of mouth spread about what was being given away.
“There’s always someone, somewhere that needs help,” Sircaliburx says. “I try to do my part where I am, but I’m just one person. Hopefully people can see me online and realize they can do the same thing and then take what I’m doing and apply it to their neighborhood.”
For the people of Philadelphia, the rapper and influencer hopes to build off of the donations and giveaways he’s already done to figure out new and improved ways to help those in need. He has big plans for the future and hopes whatever he ultimately decides to do will inspire those in the city and people all over the country and world to get up and make change wherever they are.
“It’s not hard,” the rapper says. “You’ve just got to do it. I think once you actually see the impact it becomes easy. You’re just gonna wanna start helping people eventually, no matter what you have to do.”
